IRI Europe is the Brussels office of the International Republican Institute and has been working with European civil society and policy makers to counter hybrid threats, especially foreign information manipulation, across Central and Eastern Europe since 2015. Run out of IRI’s Brussels office, the Beacon Project is a Europe-wide effort that uses data-driven analysis to develop political alliances to push back against Russian soft-power meddling in democratic processes. IRI and its European partners engage in media monitoring activities and research to expose corrosive narratives, identify vulnerabilities among groups receptive to disinformation, and facilitate a coordinated response with the transatlantic community, European governments and civil society. The Beacon Project has trained approximately 200 analysts from CSOs across Europe on its media monitoring platforms, supported more than 130 research publications by local partners across Europe, and reached over 9,000 people through external event participation in Brussels and beyond.
